According to the World Health Organization (WHO), trachoma is the leading cause of blindness in the globe.This is an eye disease caused by Chlamydia Trachomatis bacteria.The disease can be prevented.
The seeds spread through flies, people may also be infected through direct contact with the secretion from the eye or nose of the infected person.
When infected many times, the eyelashes of the patient may be pulled inside and rubbed into the eye surface, causing pain and damage to the cornea.Some patients have surgery to prevent blindness from this disease.
Transparent effort7decade
Over the past 70 years, Vietnam has been constantly striving to combat trachoma, treating hundreds of thousands of people and implementing strict disease control measures.These efforts have been significantly enhanced with the implementation of the WHO Safe strategy, including surgery, antibiotics, eye hygiene and environmental improvement.
According to WHO, previous surveys show that trachoma is a public health problem in four provinces of Vietnam.30 years ago, 1.7% of people living in these high -risk provinces need surgery to prevent blindness from trachoma.However, by 2023, the percentage of adults suffering from this form of diseases caused blindness has decreased below 0.2%.This is essential for WHO to confirm the elimination of trachoma is a public health issue.
The continuous monitoring and focusing on implementing the Safe strategy in Vietnam, starting in 1999, has contributed significantly to this minimization.

Earlier, in 2018, Vietnam eliminated lymphatic worm disease.Vietnam has also made great progress in the fight against malaria, the disease currently only appears in some areas and is about to be excluded.
